My history with green building dates back to my first home – which qualified for energy credits from the Jimmy Carter administration. The house described in this article was completed for the Hay’s retirement – all SIP’s construction. I keep in mind many ideas seem great, but don’t perform as they age. I work with techniques and materials which have stood the test of time, and our Fraser Valley testing lab.
Green building is an important part of M3 Property Service's mission. We believe in building sustainable, long lasting buildings. Depending on your design, we can incorporate solar technology and sustainable materials such as beetle kill pine – which can be used both for paneling and structural elements.
M3 installed the most advanced of composting toilets in the new Broome Hut. Phoenix toilets recycle human waste into garden grade soil. The tanks were started with wood shavings produced from the milling and planting of local beetle killed trees cut for cabin paneling and timber frame beams. Milling local logs to create the finished product was completed in the M3 construction yard in Fraser.
Grand County has a wonderful energy gift, 300+ days of sunshine a year. The task is to use this gift to help meet our energy challenge, namely cold. Because we choose to live in the mountains we bear a responsibility to the planet to offset the impacts of living here by utilizing smart building practices.
